Saturday, August 25th

On a pleasant summer evening, over 100 people attended the August 25th SVARW Stars and Stripes Gala.  Members, who have regularly attended our Stars and Stripes Gala over the past years, vowed that this year was the best event ever!  Both “old timers” and “first timers” were wowed by:

The dignitaries that honored SVARW with their presence.

  • San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed and his wife Paula who can really dance up a storm.  Mayor Reed asked SVARW to help elect more people like Pete Constant.
  • San Jose City Councilman Pete Constant and his wife Julie.  Pete thanked our group for being one of his very early supporters in his successful race to break the Democrat stronghold on the San Jose City Council.
  • Santa Clara County GOP Chairman, Keen Butcher, who thanked SVARW for their continuing support for the Party and local candidates.
  • Milpitas Mayor, Jose Esteves, who is planning to run for Santa Clara County Supervisor.
  • Milpitas City Councilmember, Debbie Giordano
  • Los Gatos Town Councilmember, Mike Wasserman and his wife Kim
  • Former US Congressman, Ernie Konnyu and his wife Lillian
  • Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce President and former San Jose City Councilmember, Pat Dando and her husband Richard.

The raffle.

Our event this year featured terrific raffle prizes plus every non-winning ticket went into a second chance drawing for baskets laden with goodies.  Our featured prizes included:

  • A sailing trip and lunch for six on San Francisco Bay courtesy of Ken Geiser
  • A Greek Dinner for 8 courtesy of Maria Fischer
  • An Hungarian Dinner for 8 courtesy of Judy Cziprian. [Note to Ernie Konnyu—better luck next year!]
  • Three-night Bed and Breakfast stay in Maui courtesy of Maria and Larry Fischer.
  • Four-night stay in Kings Beach Tahoe Condo—Susan Silver got this one for us!
  • Shooting Lesson and lunch on working cattle ranch courtesy of J.P. Puette
  • Rio Del Mar Bed and Breakfast--Susan Silver got this one for us!
  • Relationships in Black and White Portrait sitting courtesy of Delgado Photography.

The music.

Former Doobie Brother, Danny Hull and Kurt Andersen, the singing architect played and sung while we danced on the Fischer’s tennis court.  Danny’s “one more song” turned into about six more songs…no one wanted to leave.

The food.

Pat Smith’s Extravaganza hit a bull’s eye once again.  After unbelievable appetizers, most attendees couldn’t imagine there was still more to eat and drink!
